The institute offers university graduates of different primarily engineering-oriented disciplines the opportunity to continue their academic career within research and teaching activities. In principle, in this context the opportunity to earn a doctorate is given, which can be enhanced by the participation in the DLR graduate programme acquiring a number of additional skills. But also to professionally experienced ones the ILT can offer perspectives, e.g. within a typical project manager career in the DLR. Furthermore, there is the opportunity to use the comprehensive training programmes within DLR or at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).
A collaboration with the ILT can be established in various ways. Besides the common full-time contracts for entrants or professionally experienced ones, which are usually limited in time by typical project periods to three years, also part-time constellations are possible, e.g. within doctorate contracts. In addition to their curricular scientific work there is the opportunity for students to conduct internships at the ILT or to become employed as student scientific assistants within research projects.
As an interdisciplinary systemic institute the ILT requires a wide range of competences. Accordingly, the team comprises scientific staff with various degrees.
To support research and development work within projects and to assist with the preparation of lectures and exercises student assistants are hired on a regular basis.
Periodically students are given the opportunity to complete internships at the ILT.
