Volatile suspended solids

Volatile suspended solids (VSS) are, as indicated in figure 3, one portion of SS which are defined as that part of SS which can be removed by heating the solids at 550°C in a muffle furnace. The suspended solids is burned at 550°C for 2 hours in a muffle furnace and weighed after cooling in an exsiccator to room temperature.
